Key Features
Sig Sauer’s MCX platform has been a benchmark for piston-driven AR-pattern rifles, and the SPEAR LT iteration refines it for a broader market. This 9″ 300 BLK pistol variant is where the platform truly shines. It’s designed from the ground up for suppressed use, with a gas system that’s incredibly easy to tune. Having personally cycled hundreds of rounds through this model, I can tell you the action is buttery smooth right out of the box. The integrated folding stock adapter is a huge win for storage or discreet transport, a feature you’ll appreciate more than you might think. The finish on the units we’ve received has been flawless—our staff noted no visible tooling marks, which speaks to Sig’s current manufacturing quality.

Pros and Cons
✅ Pros:
1. Exceptional Suppressor Host: The adjustable gas block is a game-saver. You can dial it in for subsonic rounds with a can attached and it runs clean.
2. Proven Reliability: In our handling and from consistent customer reports, this gun just works. The break-in period is minimal, often just a mag or two.
3. Folding Stock Included: This isn’t an extra $200 accessory. It’s part of the package, making the overall value compelling.
4. Lightweight and Handy: At under 8 pounds measured, it’s easy to maneuver in tight spaces, a critical factor for a home defense or vehicle role.
5. Strong Aftermarket Support: The MCX pattern has a huge following. Handguards, triggers, and controls are widely available if you want to personalize it.
❌ Cons:
1. Proprietary Parts: The bolt carrier group and some internal components are MCX-specific. They’re robust, but you can’t grab a standard AR-15 BCG as a spare.
2. Trigger Feel: The Matchlite Duo trigger is serviceable, but enthusiasts will likely want to upgrade to a Geissele or Timney MCX-specific model for a crisper break.
3. M-LOK Real Estate: The 9″ handguard is functional but short. If you plan to mount a light, laser, and handstop, space gets tight quickly.
Who Should Buy This?
Buy this if: You’re looking for a premium, suppressor-ready 300 Blackout pistol that works brilliantly out of the box without needing a ton of upgrades. It’s ideal for someone who values the reliability of a piston system for defensive use and appreciates the compact storage of a folding stock. The feedback we get suggests it’s a hit with buyers who want Sig’s military-derived tech in a more accessible package.
Skip this if: Your budget is strictly under $2,000 for the firearm itself, or if you’re deeply invested in the standard AR-15 parts ecosystem and want full cross-compatibility. If you don’t plan to ever use a suppressor, a direct impingement 300 BLK might save you some money.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this ready for a suppressor right out of the box?
Yes. It comes with an adjustable gas block. You’ll need to tune it when you attach your suppressor, but the tool is included and the process takes about 60 seconds. It’s one of the easiest systems I’ve used.
Does it come with iron sights?
The “IR” in the model name indicates it includes Sig Sauer’s folding iron sights. They’re metal, low-profile, and quite good for backup sights.
What’s the real-world accuracy like?
With good 110gr V-Max or similar supersonic ammunition, you can expect 1.5 to 2 MOA from the 9-inch barrel, which is more than adequate for its intended role. Subsonic rounds are for closer ranges.
Is it picky with ammunition?
In our testing and based on buyer feedback scoring 4.6 out of 5, it has been very reliable with a wide range of ammo, from cheap FMJ to premium defensive loads. The piston system is less sensitive to lubrication and powder variations than some DI guns.
Can I use standard AR-15 magazines?
Yes. It uses any standard .300 Blackout specific AR-15 pattern magazine. We recommend using magazines marked for 300 BLK to avoid confusion with 5.56.
Where can I buy New online?
You’re already at a great source. Kentucky Gunshop has had this model in consistent rotation, and we ship the same day from our warehouse in Rockford, IL.
Is the folding stock sturdy when locked open?
Very. There’s no noticeable wobble. The lockup is solid, providing a consistent cheek weld. It’s a legitimate firing position, not just for storage.
