About Kentucky Gun Shop — Louisville’s Firearms Experts Since 2009
Our Founding Story
Kentucky Gun Shop was founded in 2009 by Marcus Webb, a Louisville native who grew up hunting whitetail deer in the knobs of Bullitt County and shooting competitively through his high school years. After serving two tours with the U.S. Army — including a deployment to Afghanistan as a small arms repairer and gunsmith — Marcus returned to Louisville with a singular mission: to open an honest, knowledgeable firearms shop that treated customers the way he wanted to be treated as a buyer himself.
Before opening Kentucky Gun Shop, Marcus spent 15 years as a professional gunsmith, working for dealers across the Louisville metro area. He repaired, customized, and studied thousands of firearms from every major manufacturer. That hands-on expertise is baked into everything we do — from the brands we choose to stock, to the advice we give first-time buyers, to the care we take with every FFL transfer. Marcus holds his FFL and serves as our primary compliance officer, ensuring every single transaction meets or exceeds federal and state legal requirements.
Today, Kentucky Gun Shop serves over 15,000 customers across the Commonwealth and ships to FFL dealers in all 50 states. We’ve grown from a small brick-and-mortar shop to a full-service online retailer — but we’ve never lost our roots. You can still call us directly, speak to a human who knows firearms, and get honest advice from people who are as passionate about guns as you are.
Our Mission
Our mission is simple: provide law-abiding citizens with the best firearms, expert advice, and seamless purchasing experience available anywhere in Kentucky. We believe in the Second Amendment as a fundamental constitutional right, and we take our responsibility as a licensed dealer seriously. We sell only to eligible individuals, run background checks on every transfer, and maintain complete ATF compliance on every transaction.

Kentucky Gun Culture
Kentucky has a rich and proud firearms tradition. From the long hunters who used Pennsylvania rifles to explore the Cumberland Gap in the 1700s, to the bourbon-country bird hunters and trophy deer hunters of today, firearms are woven into the fabric of Kentucky life. The state ranks among the top 15 in the nation for hunting license sales, and Louisville alone has dozens of shooting ranges, gun clubs, and sporting organizations.
We’re proud to serve this community. We sponsor local shooting clubs, donate to youth shooting sports programs, and participate in Kentucky gun shows throughout the year. Our team shoots regularly at Knob Creek Range, Louisville’s premier shooting facility, and we’re active members of the Kentucky Association of Firearms and Archers (KAFA).
Our Second Amendment Philosophy
We believe the Second Amendment is a fundamental constitutional right that protects law-abiding Americans’ ability to defend themselves, their families, and their property. We also believe that with rights come responsibilities — which is why we invest in customer education, promote safe storage practices, and support firearm safety training. Every firearm we sell comes with information on safe storage and handling. We encourage all customers, especially new buyers, to take a firearms safety course before their first range visit.
How We Vet Our Inventory
Not every firearm manufacturer meets our standards. Before we stock a brand, we evaluate it on five criteria: manufacturing quality, safety record, warranty and customer service reputation, availability of parts and accessories, and real-world user feedback from law enforcement and competitive shooters. We don’t stock no-name imports or brands with questionable quality control. Every firearm we sell is from an established manufacturer with a proven track record. If we wouldn’t stake our reputation on it, we don’t sell it.
Compliance & Legal Standards
As an FFL holder, we operate under strict ATF oversight. Every firearm sale involves a background check via the FBI’s NICS system. We maintain bound books (acquisition and disposition records) for all inventory as required by 27 CFR Part 478. We do not sell to individuals who are prohibited from possessing firearms under federal or state law, including felons, domestic abusers, illegal aliens, and others disqualified under 18 U.S.C. § 922(g). We take these obligations seriously — not just because the law requires it, but because we believe responsible gun ownership starts with responsible gun selling.
